Expressions Media and City of Adelaide have partnered to deliver a free incubator program designed to arm creatives with the skills to tackle the business side of their craft.

Based at Vault 134, the old NAB building on Hutt Street, Libby Trainor Parker from Expressions Media is thrilled to offer Vaulting Ambitions, a program that mentors, educates and nurtures our city’s artists.

“As writers, musicians, performers, publicists, venue managers and producers, my partner and I have learned much about the business of being creative, through trial and error, with a lot of error! Now that we are well versed in the art of being creative, Matt and I are excited to be imparting those skills to others and bring in guest speakers, experts and mentors to empower artists to run a successful arts practice,” Libby said.

Eighteen participants were selected from an application process with arts disciplines traversing visual arts, theatre, music, sculpture, podcasting, design and photography.

With a range of session topics, including grant writing, publicity and promotion, financial literacy, intellectual property and copyright law, resilience and work/life balance, digital marketing and SEO, digital storytelling and photography, contract law, business literacy, administration and producing, and more, our Adelaide artists are set to learn the business and administration side of their craft.

The monthly program of sessions, led by established Adelaide artists and professional practitioners will take the form of panel discussions, mentoring sessions, networking events, artist showcases and creative practice / development opportunities (making use of Vault 134 facilities).

Lord Mayor Sandy Verschoor said the partnership with Expressions Media will support our artists and artisans to grow their businesses.

“We are looking forward to working with the Expressions Media team to empower Adelaide creatives and support them to run successful businesses,” the Lord Mayor said. “The creative industries are vital to the strategic development of Adelaide as one of the world’s great cities. We are building on Adelaide’s reputation as a creative city and creating extraordinary experiences in our city.”

Vaulting Ambitions is an incubator program developed under the banner of The Business of Being Creative, which is open to creative practitioners of all backgrounds who wish to develop skills in business and promotion, while also making new connections with fellow creatives.
