This festive season, with thanks to City of Adelaide, Hutt Street will be crackers for Christmas with giant decorations made for people to leave their mark.

The Community Christmas Crackers, presented by Caravan Sounds and the Hutt Street Traders Association, will hit Hutt Street from Friday 10 December, and are a free, family friendly activation.

Boasting a mix of DJs, roving musicians, colourful hosts and a chance to leave a Christmas wish, the GIANT Christmas Crackers will be on the corner of Hutt Street and Halifax Street each Friday and Saturday afternoon from 1pm – 4pm for you to admire and inscribe with your own Christmas wish.

Caravan Sounds’ Director, Casey Welch says, “I’m ecstatic that we have created a way for the community to focus on the bright side of life. Within a matter of hours, this installation will be a personalised gift of affirmation from the Hutt Street community to everyone who passes it.”

The Community Christmas Crackers project has been funded by the City of Adelaide’s Christmas Incentive Scheme to help fill the city with festive cheer.

The scheme provides direct financial support to businesses and event organisers, as well as musicians and performers to activate places and spaces around Adelaide, creating a vibrant city Christmas culture.

City of Adelaide Lord Mayor Sandy Verschoor said the scheme supports the city community to create some uplifting Christmas spirit after a testing year.

“We want our streets and laneways filled with music, festivals, events and activity as we help our city get into the Christmas spirit,” said the Lord Mayor. “Schemes like this are an important way we can support our business and arts communities after what’s been a challenging time for everyone, and we look forward to spreading some Christmas cheer in the city this year.”

DJ Ruby Chew, The Brazil Nut Orchestra and Nick Parnell are amongst the musicians who will perform next to the crackers, giving Christmas shoppers and diners a soundtrack to the festive seasons.

Caravan Sounds have generously donated The Community Christmas Crackers to Hutt Street Traders Association so this positive, festive installation can be an annual event.
