Member for Adelaide Lucy Hood MP has committed a $3 million investment to the Hutt Street Entry Statement Project, underscoring a commitment to enriching the landscape of the southern precinct. This initiative aims to augment the welcome for visitors transitioning from the Park Lands to Hutt Street, elevating the overall aesthetic and functionality of the area.
The envisioned entrance will be adorned with planted trees and newly designed paths, integrating the city’s Park Lands with Hutt Street. The inclusion of public art installations will serve as wayfinding elements, guiding pedestrians and cyclists toward the heart of Hutt Street.
An aspect of the project involves the installation of a new Park Lands trail crossing, designed to accommodate the needs of pedestrians and cyclists. Construction is set to commence in 2024 after further community consultation.
I am delighted to see my $3 million election commitment to revitalise Hutt Street being delivered. When listening to residents and small businesses they raised the need for an improved entry statement to Hutt Street and better pedestrian connections from the Park Lands to drive increased foot traffic. This investment complements the magnificent, multi-million-dollar restoration of Davaar House, helping create a stunning entry to this beloved main street. It’s a testament to the exciting future ahead for Hutt Street.

The Hutt Street Upgrade follows several years of round table discussions between the Adelaide City Council, the Hutt Street Traders Association and other community representatives.
The Lord Mayor’s Hutt Street Round Table formed May 2020 with a goal of bringing together key Hutt Street stakeholders to address challenges and identify opportunities to improve the amenity of Hutt Street for businesses, residents and city users. The Round Table discussions provided Adelaide City Council with invaluable community feedback and ideas ultimately informing the Hutt Street Action Plan.

It’s been a lot of hard work from traders, the Hutt Street Centre, local residents, the police and the council to ensure that we can improve the entrance towards Hutt Street and encourage more people from Parkside and Glenside to walk safely down into Hutt St and the rest of the city.

Anticipated to commence in 2024, the detailed designs for stage two of the City of Adelaide’s Hutt Street upgrade will pave the way for construction in 2026. Beyond the physical enhancements, the infusion of new businesses and improved infrastructure is poised to attract individuals to the area, providing vital support to existing enterprises within the locality.
The planned network of pathways, art installations, and the Park Lands trail crossing collectively contribute to a revitalised and interconnected community space. The initiative represents a strategic investment in the vitality and allure of Hutt Street, positioning it as a focal point for both commerce and community engagement.
Thanks to the Member for Adelaide’s strong advocacy, we have received a significant contribution from the State Government to help us deliver this project. This is only the beginning of Council’s $12.5 million commitment to a master plan that will transform Hutt Street.
